The Gift of Years:
Facing Fear and Mortality “

As we advance in years, the reality of the end of our time on earth becomes more prominent in our minds. Fear may overwhelm us; but in reality, it is this acknowledgement and fear that keeps us very much alive.

Dr. Zachary Johnson Performs
10am Worship  August 5
Dr. Zachary Johnson began stu
dying music at nine, but on the piano and clarinet.  It was not until he was twelve that he discovered the classical guitar and, from his first lesson, he was hooked. The instrument has repaid his passion for it by helping him to accomplish

things he never dreamed of: attending the finest

universities, studying with the current great masters,

taking him across America and to Europe to perform.

He is happy to be able to share his love for the guitar

and its music with us!

We have an author who attends our church, and whose book is now on the bookshelves at Barnes and Noble in Sarasota. This guide offers a history of this challenging topic, up to date information about the “Me, Too” movement, and excellent resources for self-help and for help for our families and community.  Sophie will be with us on Sunday, August 5, will share a little about her book during the service, and sign copies of her book afterwards. In addition, she will be available after that to meet with our congregational care team and anyone else for questions and answers about her research and perspectives.

JUSTIN RYAN PERFORMS
Sunday, September 23,
10:00am Worship Serivce

Mark your calendars now for Justin Ryan performing during the Sunday worship service on September 23.

Justin has a gift of telling his story and blending a range of musical styles which appeals to all audiences.  As a child, Justin Ryan learned from and performed with Southern Gospel greats like
Vestal Goodman. After coming out and feeling all alone, Justin lost sight of his music and God.  He walked into a Metropolitan Community Church where he found his faith again and was forever change.  Justin met Marsha Stevens-Pino (“Come to the Water for Those Tears I Died”), who took him under her wing, and his music career was re-born.   As an in-demand Nashville session singer, he has recorded with the likes of Porter Wagoner, George Jones, Lynn Anderson, LuLu Roman and Dottie Rambo.

MCC Governing Board Update:
Governing Board Resignations,
Staff Resignations and Reductions
$450,000 USD Cut from Budget
During our regular monthly meeting on 27 July 2018, we confirmed a reduction in our current budget by $450,000 USD. This amount is based on the reality that our current monthly income, which on average year-to-date is $100,000.00 USD, is only meeting payroll. This budget reduction directly impacts staffing and programming.

Staff Resignations and Reductions
This budget reduction and changes in staffing have been communicated with all employees. Over the last two weeks, Rev. Elder Tony Freeman, Barb Crabtree, and Rev. Dr. Lisa Heilig resigned their positions on staff. In addition, Rev. Pressley Sutherland and Janine McCarthy will be leaving their staff positions. We want to thank each member of staff for their thoughtful, creative, and faithful professionalism. Each person leaving has been a gift to MCC as staff and to the wider body.
